APPL Volunteer / Internship Program

Become a VIP! Volunteer with APPL.

What is APPL-VIP?

The Asbury Park Public Library Volunteer/Internship Program (APPL-VIP) is a volunteer program designed to give community members fulfilling opportunities to use their skills to provide public service to the Asbury Park community.

Why Volunteer?

Volunteering is vital to the health of the library and your community. Volunteers provide much needed support to the youth and adults who rely on library services. You will also gain skills and knowledge that can help in your professional career and your personal life. Both adults and students can gain community service credit and valuable job experience.

Who Can Volunteer?

Anyone who has sincere interest in libraries and books, a concern for their community, or a passion for helping others can be a volunteer. As long as you can accomplish the assigned activities, we welcome volunteers with a variety of different skills, interests and abilities.

What Can A Volunteer Do?

Since our volunteers come from many different backgrounds and have an assortment of skills and experiences, there are many different volunteer opportunities. Here are a few examples: “reading” shelves to make sure items are in their proper location, tidying up/straightening shelves so that books and/or other items are neatly presented, assisting with local history projects, helping staff as needed, providing summer reading program assistance, and research assistance.

How Can I Participate?

You can pick up a Volunteer Questionnaire in person at the library, or you can download an application by clicking here: APPL Volunter/Internship Program Questionnaire (PDF). Once we receive your completed application we will contact you to discuss available opportunities. Completed applications can be dropped off at the library or emailed to apl-info@asburyparklibrary.org.

Where Can I Learn More?

You can learn more about volunteering by visiting the library in person, emailing us at apl-info@asburyparklibrary.org, or by calling (732) 774-4221.
